18th Century London Mahogany longcase clock by Thos. Gardner featuring an early 5 pillar, eight day weight driven time and strike movement. Gardner is a documented listed maker and appears in G.H. Baille's Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World Volume 1 as being at work in London during the mid-18th Century. The high style mahogany case with "pagoda" bonnet has brass stop fluted columns and elaborate fretwork panels. The early brass dial has applied spandrels, applied chapter ring, seconds register, calendar aperture, and a strike/silent lever in the arch. The dial measures 12 X 16 1/2 inches with an 11 inch time track. The formal case stands at 96" tall to the top of the center finial, 20 inches wide and 9 1/2 inches deep. The waist section of the case is highlighted by a choice figured mahogany tombstone shaped door flanked by fluted quarter columns with brass stop flutes. The base section with mahogany panel all resting on a bracket base. .
