1830 New Hampshire Mirror Timepiece with Eight Day Brass Weight Driven “Wheelbarrow” movement. The clock is unsigned but appears to be the work of Benjamin Morrill of Boscawen. In the 1985 Edition of Charles Parson’s New Hampshire Clocks & Clockmakers there is a chapter devoted to New Hampshire Mirror Clocks and on Page 195 Figure 355 is a closely related movement that was made by Benjamin Morrill. As an aside, I worked extensively with Mr. Parsons and helped him edit and publish the 2nd printing of this book for him. Morrill was born in 1794 and died in 1857 and was a contemporary of Joseph Chadwick. Remarkable is the disposition of the surface! The upper glass and mirror are both original as is the wood backing behind the mirror. The hinges that retain the door to the case are original as is the side latch. The bottom board on the clock is original, has wonderful hand made dove tails, and the weight has NEVER gone through the bottom board. The case has not been refinished, and as you can see from the photos has a wonderful patina. Overall dimensions: 30 X 14 X 4 inches. The painted iron dial measures 7 3\/4 inches with a 6 3\/4 inch time track and 3\/4 inch numerals. This has got to be one of the nicest and most original New Hampshire Mirror Clocks out there.<\/p>\n
