<\/a><\/p>\nMorgan Hollinshead was at work as a Silversmith\u00a0and Clockmaker \u00a0in Moorestown during the last quarter of the 18th Century through the first quarter of the 19th Century.\u00a0 His clocks are signed and numbered.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He was born in 1753 and died in 1832.\u00a0\u00a0 Our clock is “No. 95” and a housed in a very identifiable Delaware Valley Walnut Chippendale Case.\u00a0 The overall measurements of the clock are 95 1\/2 X 19 3\/4 X 10 inches with a 13 X 18 inch painted iron dial with 10 3\/4 inch time track and 1 1\/4 inch Roman numerals.\u00a0\u00a0 The bottom of the front plate carries a beautiful inscription “David Shoemaker, February 1, 1801.”\u00a0 Shoemaker was a clockmaker at work in\u00a0nearby Mt. Holly\u00a0during the last quarter of the 18th C.\u00a0 \u00a0There are also numerous inscriptions on the inside of the front plate that document repair work from the 19th Century, many by Benj. Budd of Mount Holly.\u00a0 There is also a Budd label with pencil inscription on the inside of the waist door.\u00a0 This clock descended in the Haines family and was purchased from Timothy Haines.\u00a0 The movement has been professionally serviced and the clock runs and strikes very nicely.\u00a0\u00a0 The case has been conserved and is in overall very good condition.\u00a0 The feet are appropriate bench made restorations.\u00a0\u00a0 The flame finial is period.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Even the bonnet glass is original “wavy glass.”\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The case comes with a working door lock and key.\u00a0 Even the winding crank is original !\u00a0\u00a0 All in all a wonderful piece of South Jersey history.<\/p>\n
