Samuel Hodges London Mahogany Longcase Clock C.1770. the Pagoda-top hood with inset fretwork on the face board, and applied crest at the top fitted with a set of three original gilded Pine wooden finials. The bonnet door is flanked by fluted columns fitted with brass stop flutes retained with brass capitals. The bonnet door opens to an early Brass Roman numeral dial with applied silvered chapter ring, applied brass urn and foliate decorated spandrels, matted center, strike/silent in the arch and applied name boss engraved Sam. Hodges London in flowing script. The waist section with tombstone shaped waist door with a thumb molded border flanked by fluted quarter columns fitted with brass capitals and stop flutes. The step molded base with applied panel with shaped corners and a step molding consistent with the waist door. The eight-day, time and hour strike clock works with original pendulum and lead filled brass shelled weights. The clock stands at a monumental 103 inches tall.
