Waltham Weight Banjo Clock Boston State House Glasses

Waltham Banjo Clock

Over the years I have owned many Waltham Banjo Clocks. To me, the subject matter and execution of the reverse glass tablets are everything and specifically the “Boston State House” glasses are the BEST. This circa early 1900’s Mahogany Weight Driven Banjo Clock with fabulous untouched original Boston State House Glasses was made by Waltham Clock Co., Waltham, MA. This is the full sized case which measures 40 1/2″ long, 10 1/2 ” wide, and 4″ deep. This is a wonderful example that retains it’s first finish, along with an original signed dial. All of the cast brass case ornaments are original an untouched: bezel, finial, and side arms. The glasses are original. Note the numbered “40” die stamped case and frame, and the “DD” and WWC cast in the back of the brass eagle finial. Waltham proudly advertised these highly prized heirlooms as “Banjo Clocks of Willard Charm and Waltham Accuracy.” These Waltham Banjo clocks are worthy successors to Willard’s Patent Timepieces and have earned for Waltham the same pre-eminent position for accuracy and beauty in clock making in the twentieth century that Simon Willard occupied in the early days of the nineteenth century. Conditions Report: A nice clean example, first finish, untouched original glasses, signed movement. Movement retains original Geneva Winding Stop. Original Weight, Pendulum and tie down. Great original fire gilt eagle that is signed on the back ! A near perfect original clock with the only minor restoration being some very minor touch up, in-painting to a small spot on the dial. The clock runs strong and keeps time, no issues. Enjoy the photos…. you simply don’t find them in this condition very often.
