John Brooker Walnut Chippendale Tall Case Clock, Philadelphia, Germantown C. 1785

John Brooker, Germantown

John Brooker (Brocker, Broecker) Germantown PA Walnut Chippendale Tall Case Clock.   He is listed in Spittler book on Early American Clockmakers.  This is an early example with bold Delaware Valley regional period details including fluted columns attached to the bonnet door, bold carved rosettes, high style carved flame finials, tombstone shaped waist door flanked by fluted quarter columns continuing to a base section with applied shaped panel also flanked by fluted quarter columns all resting on ogee bracket feet.     The amazing “high style” case retains its original feet & finials with wonderful proportions standing at 92 1/2 inches tall.  The early eight day brass movement is coupled to a painted iron dial signed above the center arbor “John Brooker” along with the City “Germantown” below the center arbor.    The works have been professionally serviced and the clock runs and strikes perfectly.   Also included are the original weights, pendulum and winding crank.    All in all, a great early painted dial Philadelphia Chippendale tall case clock.
