Circa 1810 Massachusetts Shelf Clock made by Aaron Willard Jr. on Washington St. in Boston. The overall dimensions of the clock are 37 1/2 X 12 1/2 X 5 1/2 inches. The Mahogany case with New England White Pine Secondarys with applied French feet, removable hood, and applied fretwork. The “kidney shaped” glazed door opens to a locally painted iron dial with gilt time track decoration and the makers signature in the lower section. The signature is original and in an excellent state of preservation. The eight day brass timepiece were made by Aaron Willard Jr. and closely resemble the layout of the Simon Willard “Patent” timepiece however in the shelf clock the pendulum length is considerably shorter and the suspension bridge and pendulum is mounted on the rear plate.
