Abel Stowell & Son, Charlestown

Weight driven banjo timepiece made by Abel Stowell & Son, Charlestown, MA.  The wooden case with choice, crotch grain highly figured Mahogany.  Half round, torus molded frames, crotch mahogany tablets, carved reverse scroll sidearms, turned wooden bezel, and acorn finial.  Eight day brass weight driven movement with single bridge escapement powered by an original cast iron weight.  Heavy painted iron dial with an untouched original signature by the maker. The finely made steel hands with circular side lobes are characteristic of this maker.  Overall length is 33 1/2 inches.   Movement serviced in our shop, runs strong.  Wonderful original example.
