Simon Willard Roxbury, MA Cross Banded Mahogany “T” Bridge Banjo Clock C. 1810

First Generation Simon Willard Banjo Timepiece with oversized “T” bridge, step train, dead beat escapement. Note the Filister Head “through bolts” that secure the brass works to the backboard. Cast lead weight with “duck bill” hook attached to the pulley. The cast brass side arms are pinned to the sides of the case through the center diamond. Both cross banded Mahogany frames are original and the throat frame retains the original reverse glass painted tablet. The box tablet is an old repaint on very thin, old glass. Noteworthy is the original bottom board that is dovetailed into the sides of the case. There are two plugged holes in the bottom board, and holes in the backboard in the box section to secure the clock to the wall. The chimney, and finial are original, and the hanger is original as well. The heavy iron dial has been relined at some point in the past. There are no extra holes behind the dial. Note the uniform, 1/2″ thickness construction in the head of the clock case. $ 3950
