Willard School Regulator Seconds Pendulum Banjo Clock, Boston C. 1840

Boston MA C. 1840 Seconds Pendulum Regulator Banjo Clock, Willard School w/maintaining power and novel low friction roller crutch design. Choice figured Mahogany frames and bezel. The original bezel glass w/gilded border, restored throat and box tablets on old/period glass. Original pendulum w/ gilded stick and oversized brass covered lead bob. The original heavy iron dial appears to be in an excellent state of preservation. There are no extra holes behind the dial. Original hands. The oversized works mount to the backboard with three fillister head “through bolts.” Note the idler gear on the left side of the front plate providing ample space for the Geneva protective winding stop gear on the right. A trapezoidal shaped crutch with center bridge retains the roller crutch drive mechanism. The steel crutch clears the seconds arbor through the use of a circular ring. The delicate steel hands with diamond shaped ends are original. Movement overhauled, runs strong. Case locks on all three hinged doors, note the hinged throat frame. This is a very large/heavy clock, 50 inches long!
