Mark Leavenworth, Waterbury CT
Mark Leavenworth Waterbury CT Circa 1830 short carved case wood works shelf clock. Overall the clock is 28 1/2 X 17 X 5 inches. Both glasses are original and untouched and so is the dial, backboards and label. The inset carving and punch star decoration in the crest is spectacular. The case has never been refinished and retains a deep rich patina. The carved feet, splat & finials are original with a very minor repair to one of the toe’s on one foot. The works are “textbook” Leavenworth as shown by the example formerly in the collection of Chris Brown that is highlighted in Snowden Taylor’s book. The 30-hr wood geared movement is complete, runs, and strikes. Original weights and pendulum are with the clock as well. Very nice example of a hard to find clock with a wonderful untouched reverse glass eglomise lower tablet. The left side of the label depicts the US Census from the year 1830. A copy of the now out of print and hard to find book “The Clocks of Mark Leavenworth” by Snowden Taylor will be included with the clock.
