Isaac Schoonmaker Paterson

Isaac Schoonmaker Paterson

Inlaid New Jersey Federal Mahogany Tall Case Clock Circa 1800: Isaac Schoonmaker, Paterson, 94″ tall, 8-day striking brass movement. Federal clock cases from Northern NJ feature three inlaid motifs starting in the waist door, then in the Irish panel below the door and finally in the base. The original straight bracket feet are another regional period detail commonly found in these clocks. The finish is old, dry with a lovely patina.   Minor repair to one of the feet. Fluted quarter columns. The painted iron dial is from the “Osborne, Birmingham” foundry and often found in the early painted dial clocks from Newark, Bloomfield, and Ellizabethtown. They precede their American counterparts from the Curtis, Nolen, et. al. shops from Boston and Philadelphia. The locally made eight day movement with arched plates, rack and snail strike mechanism.
