A rare Western PA Cherry & Mahogany tall case clock made in Pittsburgh. The bonnet with broken scroll pediment terminating in inlaid pinwheels, three urn-and-spire finials on inlaid plinths, an inlaid eagle in the tympanum, free-standing turned columns at the four corners, and a case door with oval inlay and a diamond shaped theme joined in the center with figured Mahogany. Waist with cove molding at the top, string inlay, chamfered and inlaid front corners, and a case door with string inlay and concave top corners. Base with cove molding at the top, chamfered and inlaid front corners, string inlay continuing to straight French feet. The American painted iron dial with a moon phase dial in the lunette with a sailing ship flying an American flag, and a seconds dial and a calendar aperture within the chapter ring. Eight day brass striking movement. Samuel Davis was active as watch and clockmaker and silversmith in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from 1804 to 1827 The dial is signed ” S. DAVIS / Pittsburgh.” Overall the dimensions of the clock are 103 X 18 X 10 inches with a 13 X 18 inch painted iron dial with a 10 inch time track, 1 3/8 inch numerals, Arabic five minute markers that are 1/2 inch. The outer gilded ring in the dial is 12 inch in diameter. The movement has been professionally serviced and the clock runs and strikes perfectly.
