Horace Tifft North Attleboro MA C. 1840

Horace Tifft No. Attleboro

I’ve been a student, collector, conservator, and dealer in Early American Clocks made in North Attleboro Massachusetts for over 40 years. In 1981 I published an article on the subject that was the first comprehensive study on the subject. The clock that I am offering for your consideration is a “text book” example of a C. 1840 Attleboro banjo clock by Horace Tifft. While clocks from this area are not rare, they are extremely hard to find in original condition including the delicate and fragile reverse scroll wooden side arms (which are always broken/missing/poorly replaced etc..). I am the owner of this clock and it is from my private collection. This clock also has the original turned wooden “acorn” finial which is usually missing and/or replaced. Finally in addition to the untouched original signed dial, this clock retains its original cast iron weight bearing the makers initials “HT.” Overall dimensions of the clock are 33 1/4 X 10 1/4 X 3 3/4″ with an 8″ dial and 6 1/2 ” time track
