Seth Thomas #1 Extra Rosewood C. 1865
Seth Thomas Clock Co., Plymouth Hollow, Conn., “Regulator No. 1 Extra” wall clock 8 day time and strike weight driven movement in a Rosewood veneered case with reverse painted tablet and painted metal dial, C. 1865. This is a rare example with a weight driven T & S movement. Remarkable is the disposition of the surface and the fact that the original labelled weight board, beat scale and bottom have never been disturbed. The case retains its original finish nicely preserved, waxed and in excellent condition with outstanding contrasting highly figured veneers. There is some minor in-painting to original dial. The label is pasted to the weight board and in excellent condition. The Seth Thomas No. 1 “Factory” Extra embossed pendulum bob and the steel “tulip” hands are original. The lower glass tablet is old and wavy. The original cast iron weights and winding crank have survived with the clock. The gold that lines the interior bead molding in the bottom door has been restored. The original case lock is with the clock as is the wooden “turn” lock that retains the bezel. The maximum overall dimensions are 44 inches long with at 14 1/2 inch dial, 13 inch time track, and 2 1/4 inch numerals.
